Teaching Philosophy

While my approach to composition instruction is largely centered around essay
structure and demonstrating intellectual curiosity through writing, my overall teaching
philosophy encourages students to challenge their beliefs about learning and
intelligence and broaden their mindset from one that is fixed to one centered around
growth. Inspired by Dr. Carol Dweck concept of “The Growth Mindset,” I believe that
all students, irrespective of their educational background or handicap, are capable of
academic success, so long as they are willing to put forth the effort to improve their
weaknesses and build on their strengths. I incessantly remind my own students that
hard work pays off and, with discipline and commitment, they can reach their
academic goals.
